God’s Word or Man’s Words and Experience: 3 C Fire, burning desire, kindle, hearts afire

3 B Fire

God’s WORD

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”—1 John 4:1

“For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”—Jude 3, 4

“For the kingdom of God is…righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost. For he that in these things serveth Christ is acceptable to God, and approved of men.”—Romans 14:17, 18

“When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”—Isaiah 43:2

This post will discuss some comments made by Flame Ministries International (a Neo-Pentecostal Catholic Organisation), regarding what they call the baptism of fire. To read more about their ministries, and some of their basic beliefs, click on “read more” at the end of this post.

I will quote some of their many unbiblical statements, followed by Bible verses. (Most of the quotes are from flameministries.org/bofire.htm) You will notice that Jesus’ sacrifice for us, though alluded to, is overshadowed by their focus on what they say is a “holy spirit fire” experience; it seems they glory in something besides the cross.

“Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.”—Revelation 2:4

“But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.”—Galatians 6:14

“For every tree is known by his own fruit. For of thorns men do not gather figs, nor of a bramble bush gather they grapes.”
    —Luke 6:44

Flame Ministries International

“…Worship is…deep and intimate worship in the Holy of Holies…All other forms of prayer and ministry are important, but secondary to this…When our focus is turned more directly to prolonged praise, we begin to experience God’s presence in greater power…”

God’s WORD

“And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from
the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;”—Matthew 27:51

“Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,”—Hebrews 10:19

“Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.”
    —Hebrews 4:16

Flame Ministries International

“May 13th 1993 was a very powerful time of praise and worship at our Revival Meeting in Perth…I saw a vision of what was revealed in prophecy to be a “Baptism of Fire” raining on the members of the Cathedral Praise Meeting in Perth Western Australia…This Fire of God has touched the lives of millions of people regardless of the denominational boundaries.”

God’s WORD

“…And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.”—2 Kings 1:12

“…there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them…”—Job 1:16.

“To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them…”
    —2 Corinthians 5:19

“Whose fan is in his hand, and he will throughly purge his floor, and gather his wheat into the garner; but he will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.”—Matthew 3:12

Flame Ministries International

“The Baptism of Fire is the manifestation of God…[it] comes to bring about a true repentance of the heart towards God…”

God’s WORD

“Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness…not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”
    —Romans 2:4

“But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”—Romans 5:8

“For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”—Romans 6:23

Flame Ministries International

“…it is especially relating to our need for the purifying Grace of God’s Love to burn away the dross and chaff of sin that, in spite of our initial conversion and love of God, clings to us through the habits of our former sin nature…”

“…This fire purifies faith and burns away unbelief rather than bringing pain to the person who is repentant. It does not bring condemnation but acquittal and newness of life…

God’s WORD

“And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness…Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,”
    —Revelation 1:5

“As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us.”—Psalm 103:12

“Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”—John 15:3

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.”—Romans 8:1

“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ
his Son cleanseth us from all sin.”—1 John 1:7

“Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”
    —Romans 6:4

“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”
    —1 Corinthians 5:17

“…but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.”
    —Luke 3:17

Flame Ministries International

“The difference between this particular Baptism and the Baptism
of the Holy Spirit, is the fact that the Baptism of Fire is usually experienced by those who have already received the Baptism of
the Holy Spirit.”

God’s WORD

“Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God.”—Matthew 22:29

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is
come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.”—Acts 1:8

“For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.”—1 Corinthians 1:18

“That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but
in the power of God.”—1 Corinthians 2:5

“…in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with
that holy Spirit of promise,”—Ephesians 1:13

“But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:”—John 15:26

Flame Ministries International

“A Catholic priest reported that he saw flickering fire all over his body that did not burn. The fruit of this experience was that his priesthood and zeal for proclaiming the Gospel grew with passion. Other experiences are heat or fire on top of the head…a gentle fiery rain often all over the body…a falling fiery rain can be seen in the room where people are praising God with heartfelt gratitude.”
[This sounds like Philip Neri mentioned in my 3B post on fire.]

God’s WORD

“…but the chaff he will burn with fire unquenchable.”
    —Luke 3:17

“For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and
    righteousness and truth;”—Ephesians 5:9

“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy
and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.”
    —James 3:17

Flame Ministries International

“It seems therefore to be a preparation for the coming of the Bridegroom in a conversion experience by removing the spot and wrinkle of sin in our lives and it especially calls for repentance as a prelude to Revival.”

“Jesus is returning for a spotless bride…What has not been accomplished in a time of blessings and gifts will be accomplished in a Baptism of Fire.” This fire is now upon the earth. Are you ready…”

God’s WORD

“Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things…But with the precious blood of Christ,
as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”
    —1 Peter 1:19, 20

“…even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,”—Ephesians 5:25, 26

“That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should
be holy and without blemish.”—Ephesians 5:27

“For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,”—1 Thessalonians 5:9

“But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us.”
    —2 Corinthians 4:7

Flame Ministries International

“…everyone reports a new enthusiasm and zeal in their faith…It brings with it a renewed enthusiasm for evangelisation, Scripture,
a greater empowering of the Charismatic Gifts and Ministries and
a deep love for the Church and its mission to the world.”

God’s WORD

“Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.”—Matthew 23:15

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”—Mark 16:15

“…the gospel which I preached unto you…”For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures.”—1 Corinthians 15:1–4

“He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”—John 3:36

“Let no man deceive you with vain words: for because of these things cometh the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience.”—Ephesians 5:6

“And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.”—Revelation 20:15

The next post will be an introduction to a 9 part series of posts on people or books that reference fire and heart in some way. I will start with Babylon and go to the present.

God’s WORD

“…but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.”—Galatians 1:7

“Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

“And of some have compassion, making a difference:

“And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.”—Jude 21–23

3 D Introduction to Burning Heart, Soul on fire, flame

Flame Ministries International

Flame Ministries International is a Neo-Pentecostal Catholic Organisation of Lay Evangelists/Preachers founded in Western Australia. They publish “Blaze Magazine Online.” (flameministries.org/fmiyouth.htm)

St. Mary’s Cathedral Catholic Pentecostal Church (now called St. Mary’s Cathedral Praise Meeting) is a “Neo-Pentecostal” and fully Catholic church where where the “baptism of fire revival” took place. (flameministries.org/praise.htm)

FMI has other ministries, including, Set My People On Fire, The Holy Spirit and His Manifold Anointing, and Flame Youth Ministries. Mr. Eddie Russell, the Senior Founding Director of FMI, is a full time Catholic Evangelist and author who has preached Conferences, Parish Missions, Seminars, Retreats and Revival Rallies…

“…a Prayer Meeting that lasts for two or three hours saying the rosary, formal, or petitionary prayers…Another corruption of faith is that the Eucharist in the Catholic Church is only a “memorial” supper and not the “real” presence of Jesus, body soul and divinity…” [My comment: The Eucharist is NOT the real presence of Jesus, and will be discussed in part 4 of this series.]

“…in the early 1960’s…it was called the Catholic Pentecostal Renewal.” To avoid confusion with Protestant Pentecostalism, the term Pentecostal switched to Charismatic; Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

“The Catechism of the Catholic Church is the most important document this century. It has the ability to combat this crisis of truth if we have the courage to take it up and use it. It is a powerful weapon against false doctrine and suspect practices…”

“All the teaching subjects are based first and foremost on Holy Scripture, Dei Verbum and the Catholic Catechism…”
—Set my people on Fire (flameministries.org/smpof.html)
[My Comment: They don’t use “Just God’s Word.”]
