Discernment Ministries: Deceiving and Being Deceived

God’s WORD

    “How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation;
    which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was
    confirmed unto us by them that heard him;”—Hebrews 2:3

    “But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.

    “But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned
    and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast
    learned them;

    “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

    “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

    “That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.”—2 Timothy 3:13–17

Originally, my Just the Book blog was intended to post research regarding what was behind the Homeschool agenda, its leaders, Christian Worldview, “religious right” and the “right wing” of government.

As a result of the research I have done, I now understand that there is a quagmire of deception beyond comprehension in about any area and on many levels—education, media, science, government, religious systems, and ministries, (including discernment ministries).

    “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.”—1 John 2:16

    “And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth
    in wickedness.”—1 John 5:19

It seems that the error I have found and compared with Scripture since August
of 2007, on my Just the Book blog, has been like trying to track down all the
counterfeit money there is and compare it to genuine money to show people
why it is counterfeit. There is no end of the deceit and the deception that can
be researched.

    “I have not written unto you because ye know not the truth, but because ye know it, and that no lie is of the truth.”
    —1 John 2:21

    “Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father
    ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode
    not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he
    speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and
    the father of it.”—John 8:44

    “For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.

    “And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an
    angel of light.

    “Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be
    transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose
    end shall be according to their works.”—2 Corinthians 11:13–15

    “Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

    “Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron;”—1 Timothy 4:1, 2

    “Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.”—Psalm 120:2

    “For they speak not peace: but they devise deceitful matters against them that are quiet in the land.”—Psalm 35:20

    “A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.”—Proverbs 14:25

    “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”—Jeremiah 17:9

I found doublespeak and hypocrisy, selective discernment advice, as well as the twisting and intricately intertwining of scripture for an unbiblical agenda, in the writings of A. W. Tozer, the rhetoric and writings of homeschooling leaders, Christian worldview folk, the “religious right”, those from the “right wing” of government, as well as many of the Discernment Blogs I have read.

New Age Discernment Ministries
I was not prepared, however, to find a connection between homeschooling, Christian Worldview folk, Tozer and Discernment Ministries, with New Age Discernment Ministries and books. The double speak/hypocriscy that goes
on is appalling.

Discernment ministries pointing to the New Age thought in politics and religion as part of our political and world system, make people fearful about things they have no control over, thereby deflecting people from living a quiet life and the faith walk the Bible directs us to live.

The Original Lie

    “And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.”—Genesis 3:4, 5

It seems that our “world” is permeated with the original lie and the earning of salvation and righteousness by ones own works (like Cain). The lie belongs to the Kingdom of Darkness, and can be traced through history to Revelation where it is called (my opinion) Mystery Babylon and is connected to the Great Whore.

    “For true and righteous are his judgments: for he hath
    judged the great whore, which did corrupt the earth with
    her fornication, and hath avenged the blood of his servants
    at her hand.”—Revelation 19:2

Theosophy and the Original Lie
Instead of linking New Age thought to the original lie, the New Age discernment ministries through their books, writings, and posts, set up Theosophy as the spiritual system from which “New Agers” get their motivation.

Theosophy as well as the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church, the Mormon
Church, freemasonry (which by the way, the Southern Baptist Church won’t
say is wrong), hermeticism, Babylonian and Egyptian mysticism, paganism,
Greek philosophy, mysticism, Hinduism, Buddhism, alchemy, neo platonists,
desert “fathers” (mystics), scholasticism (in my opinion), metaphysical beliefs,
contemplatives, cults—any belief system that is not about trusting in Jesus’
sacrifice alone for forgiveness of sins—all are based on the original lie
quoted in Genesis, which taunts people to be like God, and to ‘find’ God
their own way, but does not tell people they can get their sins forgiven.

The Ecumenism of the New Age Discernment (NAD) and other Discernment Ministries
One of the many paradoxes is that though they warn against ecumenical groups, the Discernment Ministries themselves, are appealing to an ecumenical group.

New Age discernment information and books, just like Christian Worldview and Tozer, have the (Roman Catholic) ecumenical and common ground appeal. Baptists, Catholics, Mennonites, Seventh Day Adventists, Church of the Nazerene and Episcopalians all seem to be interested in what New Age so-called Discernment ministries are “discerning” and warning against.

Possible New Age Discernment endtimes belief
Not only do New Age Discernment ministries falsely focus on Theosophy as the reason New Age thinking is wrong, but I suspect that the NAD ministries believe a different endtime scenario that is not from the book of Revelation.

Perhaps at least some of them believe the endtimes are revealed in the Roman Catholic apocalyptic novel, Lord of the World, written in 1908, by Robert Hugh Benson, or in a series of apocalyptic novels collectively entitled Children of the Last Days, written by Michael D. O’Brien.

Discernment Ministries do not warn about the Ecclesia in America:
The way to conversion, communion and solidarity in America

—Pope John Paul II, Mexico, 1999
I would also like to remind you of the Roman Catholic evangelization plan, which already seems to be in place, but is not addressed by the Discernment Ministries.

    “Train truly Christian leaders in the different spheres of human activity, and in society, especially in politics, economics, science, art and philosophical reflection…”

Last JTB Post for a while
This is my last post, possibly for a very long while. I’ve found out more than I wanted to know about Discernment Ministries. The deception is deep and vast, with a deep bench of players from all walks of life.

I plan on concentrating on another project of mine, keeping my home, and loving my husband and the children God has given me so that God’s Word is not blasphemed. (Titus 2:1–5)

A special thank you to those who have read my blog the last year and a half.

Here are a few Bible verses that I hope are an encouragement to you.

God’s WORD
“Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

“In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

“But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;”—Titus 1:1–3

“For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

“Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;

“Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

“Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

“These things speak, and exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no man despise thee.”—Titus 2:11–15

“Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
—Hebrews 12:2

“I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

“For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead
a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

“Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

“For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

“Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”
—1 Timothy 2:1, 2, 3

“And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;”
—1 Thessalonians 4:11

“Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course, and be glorified, even as it is with you:

“And that we may be delivered from unreasonable and wicked men: for all men have not faith.

“But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.”—2 Thessalonians 3:1–3

“Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?”—2 Corinthians 13:5

“Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.”
—1 Thessalonians 5:21

“Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.”—Malachi 3:16

  1. Thank You so much for your web site. Tozer has been admired and quoted all over the place. I came to be suspicious of him and that’s what connected me to your site. That’s the sweet thing about the Bible. I can totally enjoy it and totally trust it. I have so much to learn, I need fellowship but wonder, where do you find true, safe fellowship? All the churches I visit are into all kinds of wrong. They offer Bible studies without the Bible, they prefer a book some one else wrote instead, that always disturbed me. I always wondered why don’t they want to use the Bible. It hurts, to think of a Bible study with no Bible. I need to relocate to find a church, at this point I would be content and feel richly blessed If I had even just 2 or 3 God-loving Bible believing friends for study, fellowship, prayer and worship.

  2. Thank you so much for your posts. I have been researching Jesus Calling to try to convince others of its danger.

    I then happened to start reading AW Tozer’s Pursuit of God. I was appalled at the similarities with Jesus Calling. I was so surprised of all the discernment ministries that praised Tozer. Thank you so much for exposing him for what he truly is.
